Live Ocean is a Seattle based non-profit  focused on Education, and Marine Conservation.

We have an educational association with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society and a partnership with the conservation non-profit OceansWatch.   Live Ocean is based on a generously donated Formosa 41  sailboat which we are outfitting for our projects.  Currently, we are recruiting volunteers for projects onboard, and in local Seattle Schools.

We will be starting our first offshore project with OceansWatch in the Spring of 2011, when we travel to Vanuatu to assist with the establishment of Marine Protected Areas, education, and humanitarian aid efforts in the South Pacific.

All these volunteer positions are yacht based on Moksha (54′), Magic Roundabout (34′) and Rowena (41′). Please note that one person can cover more than one job. In addition to the appropriate skills for each position, the following skills are very advantageous: diving, sailing, filming, photography, first aid, good report writing.

Working with OceansWatch is full-on, fun, hard-work and very rewarding. We are seeking people who are committed to conservation and to helping others so we would expect your C.V. to show this.

Rowena and Magic Roundabout will be based in Vanuatu. Moksha will stop in Vanuatu for a few weeks for crew training then head to the Solomon islands and PNG.

All volunteers may be asked to help with boat preparation work or other tasks to support the organisation. Some training will be given in New Zealand and Reef Check and Coral Watch training will be given in Vanuatu.

Magic Roundabout and Moksha will depart from New Zealand in May, Rowena departs late March from Seattle. The Moksha expedition will finish in October in Cairns and the other expeditions finish in November in New Zealand.

OceansWatch is an NZ and USA registered charity. As such we rely entirely on donations and grants to fund our work. Whilst on the yachts your on-board food and accomodation expenses are covered.  We request a NZ$200 per week donation to OceansWatch towards our costs (tax deductible for NZ and USA taxpayers).
